Quote of the Day:  “Your success depends mainly upon what you think of yourself and whether you believe in yourself.”  William J.H. Boetcker

It has been such a disappointing April Fool’s Day, Michael did not play a single joke on us.  I have always been able to count on him for that.  He is a practical joker and he did not bring his A game to the table this year.  Nonetheless, Mother Nature had the last laugh as it snowed today after record warm temperatures on the proceeding days.  It was beautiful snow that fell today, light and fluffy.  It landed on the grass making a white blanket but it will not last.  Kate stood at the open door leading to the backyard, barefoot and all, yearning to go outside.  That’s what I love about children, they look at the world so differently from adults.  They have all this enthusiasm for whatever nature dishes out, hot or cold.

Maggie and Kate, immediately after dinner, with the adults sitting around the table conversing, went into the pantry and brought out any kind of mop that they could push and started moving around us.  It was hilarious, the two of them, pushing a tool around the kitchen and surrounding area, Kate participating because her big sister was.

Friday, I logged 16 miles and was so grateful that I could run that long and feel as good as I did.  I was struck with the stomach flu the Saturday before and every day last week that I ran, I was forced to walk.  But on Friday I tried again and found my strength had returned.  Sue O. and I headed out from Rite-Aid north toward the city.  Sue wanted to complete 12 that day and so we ran together for 5 miles and then I turned around and she continued on for another mile.  Worried that I would slow her down, I thought that would be a better plan.  On my own, I could go my own pace and felt really good.  I got back to my car, now having run 10 miles, got a drink and protein bar and then walked back to meet Sue.  After Sue got in her car to head home, I ran another 5.5 miles through Holladay.  Here’s what I discovered on Friday’s run, I have been spending a lot of my time running along 20th East in Holladay and one of the streets that connects to 20th is called Lynne Lane.  How appropriate that I have been logging lots of miles on Lynne Lane.  I looked up at the sign and was pleased that they had named the street so.  I could properly train in honor of my sister.  The second thing I learned is a bit embarrassing.  I ran by the Holladay cemetery where my Reynolds Grandparents are buried.  I decided to run through and find their headstone.  I knew they were by this hill and so as I reached the hill and looked around, I was unable to find the stone.  Pretty soon, a grounds keeper came over to ask if he could help, he tried to find the headstone and then gave up.  I felt guilty as I ran away from the cemetery towards my destination that I hadn’t visited it more often or brought flowers on appropriate holidays.

Tonight, after dinner, we all went up to Jen and Pete’s house so we could be an audience to Ella who is trying out for a play.  She sang two songs for us and delivered such a delightfully wonderful performance.  Maggie sat on my lap and before Ella started said “This is so exciting!”  And indeed it was.  Maggie watched bright eyed as Ella sang out clearly, all of her lines learned.  I thought of the courage it takes to try out for a play or put our talents out there for others to see.  I am so proud of Ella, she is such a darling girl!  After Ella’s performance, Maggie wanted a turn.  She sang a little of Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious from Mary Poppins and then said, “I don’t want to sing this song.”  She reminded us all to be quiet with a “shhh” and then told Grandpa Joe to clap when she was finished.
