Family at Newport Beach- Fall Break

I have the most darling daughter-in-laws!  Elle, Mary and Katie are amazing and I feel so lucky that my boys chose such beautiful, smart, compassionate, loving women to share their lives with!  And I have the most lovely grandchildren ever! So I feel incredibly lucky.  And Tuesday, I had a biopsy taken on an area right below my knee that I have been watching since August.  I thought it was a spider bite since we were in the Tetons when I noticed it but it hasn’t gone away, but it also hasn’t changed.  I’ve been to several doctors and no one really knows what it is, and they don’t think it’s dangerous, but to give me peace of mind, Dr. Nibley ordered a biopsy.  So on Tuesday, I spent 4.5 hours in the hospital having it done.  I was surprised that it would take that long to do the procedure and then they had to do so much prepping on me.  In truth, I was a bit embarrassed to be taking up so many resources for this biopsy.  But, I get the results, perhaps, tomorrow and, hopefully, it is a benign mass that needs no further concern.  On that day, Katie, Taylor’s wife sent me this text and it was just what I needed.  BTW, I hadn’t told anyone I was having procedure because I just didn’t want to worry or bother anyone with it. Here’s what Katie wrote.

“I found this quote in my old journal today that I had written next to that it reminded me of you and how great it is you don’t care about being the most known or having the most likes on social media but about really living for other people. Hope you are having a good week!”

I don’t want to drive up to the pearly gates in a shiny sports car, wearing beautifully, tailored clothes, my hair expertly coiffed, and with long, perfectly manicured fingernails. Telling everyone of my world wide travels.

I want to drive up in a station wagon that has mud on the wheels from taking kids to scout camp.

I want to be there with a smudge of peanut butter on my shirt from making sandwiches for a sick neighbors children.

I want to be there with a little dirt under my fingernails from helping to weed someone’s garden.

I want to be there with children’s sticky kisses on my cheeks and the tears of a friend on my shoulder.

I want the Lord to know I was really here and that I really lived.
