Quote of the Day:  “Have you ever noticed how grateful you are to see daylight again after coming out of a long dark tunnel?  Always try to see life around you as if you’d just come out of a tunnel.”  James Stewart in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, 1939

Exercise Log:  Today I went with Jen, Mikeleen, Kathy E., and Rachel came with baby Isa.  It was wonderful to have a baby in stoller in our midst!  We went 4.22 miles.  We walked over to the end of Mile High Drive and onto a private road where we literally walked through a swarm of dragonflies.  It felt like they were flying right at us.  I loved it!  Apparently, dragonflies swarm because they are feeding.

Yesterday, I had so many well wishers since it was my last chemo.  Thanks to Kristen and Ed Iverson, Delsie and Jim Becker and Serida for the beautiful flowers.  The flowers look so beautiful and really lift my spirits.  They brighten our home.  Serida’s wish really touched me. “May you continue to be surrounded with help and strength as you go forward.”  Erin brought over this amazing garden Dragonfly that I found the perfect place for.  The day really was topped off with Nate and Mary preparing dinner for us and spending time up in Millcreek Canyon.

Yesterday, as I arrived at Sue Buehner’s home for the Tea Party, I was touched by all the cars outside her house.  They had been waiting for me for a while since it’s hard to gauge chemo time.  I walked inside and they were all dressed in these beautiful dresses, jewelry, gloves and gorgeous hats.  I marvel at my friends and always come away amazed at how they find these clothes to match a certain era.  Every detail seems to be attended to.  I really don’t know how they do it.  And then the food and Sue’s presentation with plates and silverware.  Her house is incredible- beautifully, tastefully decorated but warm and inviting at the same time.  Between all of them, they possess so many talents and what I love is that everyone is different and has so much to give.  Sometimes, it’s easy to become discouraged when one compares yourself to them but I always remind myself that by being around them and surrounded by this ring of friendship, I am learning to be like them.  Really, my friends have taught me so much about compassion, service towards others, cooking, decorating, shopping and the list goes on.  How lucky I am to be among them.  We had such a good time socializing and building bonds.  I also love that Jen came- it’s so fun to welcome new friends into our group.

Joanie- Hooray. . . you made it through chemo! Thanks for sharing your personal ordeal with all of us. I literally have gotten addicted to your inspirational blog and have to get my “fix” every few days from your heroic and positive writings. I’ve known you for years and realized your strength of character but have seen it multiply ten times through this ordeal. You are truly amazing. Between you and Jennifer Merkley, I’ve replaced my ignorance with insight when it comes to breast cancer. I couldn’t ask for two better examples of women who conquer it with faith and courage.

Thanks again for the impact you have had on all my children. I was cleaning out a closet last week and came across the 3 page letter of recommendation you took the time to write for Brian when he was applying for a scholarship. It really is a something to treasure to think that a busy individual would take the time to write so many encouraging and positive things about a student. I also found Amanda’s Service Scholar book and Caiti’s tennis posters. All reminders of their good fortune to have such a terrific teacher and role model. You were a true gem to Skyline and I’m sorry the faculty let you slip out the back door without the recognition for the incredible contribution you made over the years. Like you said . . . great students are the reward (and maybe just a little perk each month at retirement age).

You are terrific. I’m sure our paths will continue to cross as they have over the past 35 + years.

    Much Love,
    Pam Jenson
