I hope you have noticed that we have added a feature to the blog- Race for the Cure- at the top of the page.  My darling daughter-in-law, Mary, has put together along w/ Nate a link if you want to join our team and come and do the race that day.  I have done it in the past and it is amazing- the support this race gets and the money that goes into breast cancer research.  A lot of my students have volunteered at this event throughout the years, so I feel really drawn to it.  My neighbor, Cindy Jackson, has done a ton in getting volunteers for this event in the past and spent many, many hours volunteering herself and with her daughters!  I have watched the video for years when Cindy has come to Skyline to get our support and always have been touched by the stories, and isn’t that just like life, you never know when you may be in the position to need the help.  How grateful I am for Susan G. Komen’s sister to have taken a stand against breast cancer!

Quote of the Day:  You may not realize it when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you.   Walt Disney

Exercise Log:  5.1 miles on stairmaster.  (surplus .81 miles) Kathy English texted me in the night to say that her daughter, Sue, was having her twin girls.  Congrats to all!  Also, Melissa and Issac Kunz on birth of baby boy!

Let me tell you a little about Mary Wixom Daily!  I first met Mary when I was teaching at Skyline and she was a senior.  She had this really darling set of friends and they took Peer Leadership Team their senior year, which I was teaching.  I remember thinking, how have I not noticed this group of girls before?   A few months later that year,  I was so impressed with them I thought that this is the most incredible group of girls and then a little bit later, when Nate and his friends starting “hanging out” with Mary and friends, what a blessing for Nate that he is having such a great time his senior year getting to know these girls.  And then when she and Nate started going to dances, I was just keeping my fingers crossed that Mary would continue to give him the time of day.  Now, let me tell you about Nate, he took one look at Mary and that was that.  He never even considered another girl.  I knew no one else would do and I also knew that when he came home from his mission, he might get his heart broken. But happily, one day he was on the phone with Mary and he came up stairs and said:  “Turns out Mary does like me”.  Nate asked Mary to marry him on the top of Angel’s Landing in Zion’s Canyon, Spring Break, 2004.   Both Wixoms and Dailys were in St. George.  We could not have been more pleased and kept pinching ourselves that it was real!  Now they have the most darling, beautiful girls and our real joy is seeing them as parents.  They are truly so dedicated to their girls.  They work so hard and are so committed to being successful, caring people.  There is not one day that goes by that either one or both of them calls to see how I’m doing and usually it’s much more than that- it’s an offer to share dinner or do some act of kindness for us!

Just when I start to feel really bad about my situation, I see or hear a story and can’t believe what others are going through.  I was watching the Today Show the other morning and they profiled a young couple who both not only have cancer but for both, terminal cancer.  To add to that , they have a little girl, Sadie, who is about 18 months old.  I couldn’t believe that this couple would have to endure this and leave behind their little girl.  Their names are Elisa and Nathan Bond and they have an amazing blog and attitudes.  They also have a fabulous support system.  Would someone please find a cure for cancer!  Here is what Elisa said in her blog:   “If I had the choice for Nathan and I NOT to have cancer, I would take it.  In a heartbeat, I would take it for Sadie’s sake, for our parents and for all those people who love us and worry about us.   We didn’t choose our diagnoses,  but we do choose to be in a state of gratitude.  There is too much love and healing coming our way not to feel blessed.”

I am grateful for Annette- that we got to see Jane Eyre together.  Great, artistic movie, but leave the guys at home for this one!  Joyce and Jim Morgan for darling orange tote, lotion and visit!  Emily and Marcus for visit yesterday.
