So I wanted to include this in my blog because I gave a talk to the Young Men and Young Women at church and I related how sometimes trials get so heavy that you can’t lift them alone and so you look to a higher power to share that load.  And it is through that sharing that you learn humility.  Also, a big part of my faith is believing in that power and finding comfort in the scriptures.  Promises to “fear not” and “burdens will be made light” through faith in Christ are of huge comfort to me. After I spoke that day, a sweet friend sent me this e-mail.

Joanie,
Your talk today was so great and touched me for many reasons. Growing up in Wyoming I learned waaay to much about farm equipment! I have a special attachment to a yoke that I inherited off of our family farm in Wyoming that was established in 1909. The reason I love it so much is because of the symbolism it represents. I know that yoke helped settle that area and my great, great, great, great grandfather was sent by Brigham Young to Wyoming to build canals for irrigation and settle that part of Wyoming. It also helps me remember the scripture you mentioned today which is one of my favorites. You may know this already but after you shared your experience I wanted to give you a little bit of insight I learned down on the farm. haha  The strap or bow that harnesses the oxen to the yoke creates a custom fit so that two oxen of unequal size or strength can pull together. So even if one is much stronger, the bow allows the weaker one to pull at the same pace without being dragged by the other. Only animals of the same kind can be harnessed together. A donkey and an ox would never be yoked together. The only way to be “yoked with the Savior” is to be like him. It doesn’t matter if we aren’t as strong, He will make sure we are not left behind! What a great example you are of being like the Savior, I loved hearing your testimony on the atonement and I feel blessed for the opportunity to get to know you better.

Love, Heather
