Quote of the Day: “Peace does not dwell in outward things, but within the soul; we may preserve it in the midst of the bitterest pain, if our will remains firm and submissive. Peace in this life springs from acquiescence to, not in an exemption from, suffering.” Francois de Fenelon
Today I did the double walk- I went with Sue B., Sue O. and Patti for an hour and then another hour later with Jen. The slightly-less-than full moon was high in the west sky as we started out and directly down from it shining brightly, Venus. We saw this big bunny rabbit nibbling on some plants. The mornings are what it’s all about. It feels good and smells fresh- food for the soul.
As I went through my e-mails, I was so happy to see comments left from Lynne’s oldest son, Matt on my blog. I have talked about Matt before and what a wonderful person he is. He is young, just 26 and already accomplished so much, a doctor, no-less! I remember when Lynne was pregnant with Matt. She had an ultra-sound and they told her she was due on May 5 because of his size and development. Believe it or not, Matt came into this world on June 19th weighing close to 10 lbs. and he really seemed to be about a month old at birth. Lynne was a trooper because she waited and waited for him to be born. She was so happy to have this little boy here and he really was perfect. I think all my sisters feel this way about having children- there is no greater joy! Anyway, Matt would sit in his seat and just babble and make noises but really never fussed. We used to marvel at it. The Alexanders tell a cute story about Matt when he was probably 10 or 12. They came to visit their cousins in Klamath Falls and all the cousins were outside playing. Jon Alexander suggested to Matt that they doorbell ditch some of their neighbor’s houses and Matt quickly replied “I don’t think my Dad would want me to do that.” Matt was an exceptional athlete and went on to play college ball, academically he was valedictorian of his high school and moreover, all around great person. He is now practicing dentistry in Medford. He conducted his Mom’s memorial service and one thing he said that was so endearing was that he wanted to make his Mom proud and indeed he is doing that. I know, without a doubt, that she is very proud of him. She was so happy at Kelsey and Matt’s wedding on July 31st- she looked so beautiful and got to dance with her darling son!
Here’s Matt’s comments on my blog:
Hey Joanie,
I had some time to read through several of your blog postings. I just want you to know what an inspiration it is to read. It reminds so much of my mothers attitude and positive outlook on life. I now know that accepting God’s will for our lives is a difficult thing to do, but when we put our trust in him, we know that no matter what happens it is for a reason. As time has passed and the dust from my moms passing has settled. I have found myself missing my mother more than I could imagine. Life is so much different without her around. I don’t understand why she had to go, but I know that God has a reason behind it. It may be his way of changing some of our lives here on Earth. All I know is that its for a reason. It makes me happy to read your blog. I feel her spirit in your words, and I have the best feeling about you and your battle with cancer. I have a feeling deep in my heart that you are going to kick its butt and never look back. I know you are going to beat this for Lynne. I just wanted to say Hi and we love you, and miss you guys. Keep up the fight. It will one day be behind you.
Love,
Your nephew Matt
