RACE FOR THE CURE DAY!!!

Quote of the Day:  “You gotta hang in there.  You don’t know what’s ahead.  You don’t realize the potential you have.  You keep asking yourself, “Is is really worth it?”  But you gotta hang in there. Brendan Morehead, Sprinter

Exercise Log:  My Garmin read 3.48 after race- we walked a bit around before we got to our car.  (-1.62)

How do you thank someone for rallying for your cause?  It’s a hard one because most of us know we have people in our corner but sometimes we get so bogged down with life that we forget that there are angels on earth all around us, ready to go to bat for us- people who think about us, worry about us and are concerned for our welfare.  I was so touched and have been during this whole Race for the Cure process, by people who keep showing up for me. It’s pretty overwhelming and it’s hard because it feels like I just keep taking and don’t have anything to give in return.  Skyline students made this big Team Joanie banner with words and signatures from students- which I can’t wait to read and Mary also made a Team Joanie poster.  One of my favorite pictures is Mary holding it!  But, again I was so touched by the support.  I want to personally thank and acknowledge everyone who came to support, but I know I can’t list everyone who came down, or everyone who wanted to be there but I have really tried to mark them in my mind so I could send a thank you to God for these wonderful family members and friends. How do you thank a Nate or Mary or Cindy Jackson for bringing everyone together?   Cindy Jackson brought bandanas for Joe and Maggie and so once again Maggie wore a pink bandana. Mary ordered these bright pink Team Joanie stickers people put on their backs and then Serida had pink wristbands made that say “Faith” and “Strength”.

Joe and I drove down this morning with Tom and Mauritia.  It was nice to talk to them.  It was a beautiful, perfect temperature morning and then when our big group started to make our way to the starting line, we couldn’t all stay together, of course. I thought of my support taking different places along the course.  I thought of their support not just for me but for everyone who has been affected by breast cancer.  I loved being w/ Nate, Mary and their friends, Maggie and Kate. Catherine McConkie and I held Maggie’s hands for a little while so she could run.  I couldn’t help but think of the great example of these parents, showing their children to come walk for a cause.  Nate and Suzanna Wixom’s little boys walked the whole way and never complained.  And 3.1 miles took us over an hour.  There were so many people!  There are so many stories.  There are so many people who have battled this and have survived and I’m going to follow in their footsteps!
