Quote of the Day:  “Make the best use of what is in your power, and take the rest as it happens.”   Epictetus

Exercise Log:  Sue O., Cokie and I did the same route in Holladay as Tuesday- going 3.73 miles.  I wasn’t sore after I ran on Tuesday so I was very encouraged.  Today I felt ok but had to walk a few times.  Nonetheless, it’s so great to be running again!  It was decidedly cooler this morning.  I love the way the air feels on my skin.

Lunch yesterday with Skyline colleague, Matt Clark, who always brings me good stories and insight into life.  Card from Malissa R-R, whose debt I will forever be in because she has kept me in her thoughts!

Last night, Alex and I went with Nate, Mary and the girls to Seven Peaks Water Park.  It was such a warm day and the temperature was still 86 degrees when we drove home around 8:30 P.M.  Maggie came in our car for the drive there- she is such a back-seat driver.  Her car seat puts her high enough that she can see pretty well what’s going on.  She’s very aware of her environment and observes the streets and building so as a result, she becomes the expert and tells me the whole way how to get there.  And, funny thing, she’s usually right.  Anyway, she has a huge crush on Alex and he does these funny voices and she just laughs and laughs.  We should all live life with the enthusiasm of Maggie.  She squeals going on all the tube rides and then in the wave pool, she wants to enjoy it to the fullest as she paddles to experience every wave.  When we were ready to go home, we were going to transfer her car seat to her parent’s car and she objected “Oh, please, I just love being with you so much”.  Oh my, I will go out of my way to drive that girl home!

Good health is so important.  I am so grateful to be feeling good again and to be a participant in life.  When I was doing chemo, someone asked me what I had been doing and it gave me such pause because I couldn’t figure out if they really understood what chemo involved or if they expected me to be doing more.  I don’t know but I do remember thinking that I hadn’t felt well enough to really even read, my brain hurt.  I did listen to books but the reading seemed harder.  I didn’t have the motivation to even scrapbook, practice the piano or take on a project.  Now, I wake up and have so many things that I want to accomplish in the day.  I am spending time on the piano and memorizing poetry, among other things!  It feels so good to have that drive and desire back in my life and I feel great.  Sometimes in the afternoon, I’ll sit down or lie down for a few minutes as I know radiation should make me tired but I think I feel so much better compared to after the chemo and mastectomy.   Good health just can’t be bought or taken for granted.
