Quote of the Day: “And if I laugh at any mortal thing, ‘Tis that I may not weep.” Lord Byron
Exercise Log: Kathy E. Jen and I walked 3.30 miles. We went around cove area. I love this time of year- it’s cooler in the morning and getting darker, it seems, every day.
Tribute to Lynne Patrice Young Starley: Gratitude for a sister including favorite memories
-Lynne was my partner in crime on two occasions that I can remember when we lived on Metropolitan Way. I would have been 8 or younger and Lynne at most 10. One time we hopped our fence, and then climbed way up high in our neighbor’s cherry tree and picked these delicious, luscious cherries. We got a bag full and then got home and Lynne wrapped hers in aluminum foil. I remember that quite clearly. But our crime would not go unnoticed. Our neighbor reported to our mother what we had done. My mom worked really hard to support us and cherries were expensive and a rare treat but she went and bought cherries to replace what we had stolen. Another time, in the summer, Lynne and I went across 3300 S. which was a big deal. We had either walked or rode our bikes but we met some other kids in the gully behind Skyline. At that time, not all the houses must have been there. We played in the water and jumped from the rope swing all day. When we finally got home, I thought my mom would be furious but I don’t think she realized we had been gone all day. We never got in trouble but I do remember that there was one casualty that day- my shorts were toast- the back was completely worn through.
-Lynne was always the toughest of us 5 girls. Our living room had a huge glass window that we would preform in front of during the summer. My mom was at work and so we were left to our own devices all day. We would crank up the stereo full blast and sing and dance to all the music, popular, show-tunes, you name it, we loved music. We would use the piano bench to stand on and one time Lynne was performing when it tipped over. She had fallen on her arm but she was tough and none of us were really worried. Later, my dad came and got Lynne and took her to the doctor’s office. She came home with a big, white cast on her arm and the biggest smile I have ever seen on her face.
-It was the best having a sister just 2 years older than I was. Lynne was born in January of 1957 and I was born in December of 1958 but some how she always seemed much older and wiser than I was. She was gutsy and wasn’t afraid to tell someone what she thought. She stood up for me many times in my life and you never forget that. If someone comes to your rescue when you are down, you remember.
January 15, 2011- Lynne’s 54th Birthday- Bora Bora, Tahiti
I hope Lynne is able to read your comments because they are such tender rememberances. I loved reading them, too.
