IMG_3829I am in love with this place, this place where I live.  I am 10 minutes away from the most gorgeous hiking trails and a bit further from canyon after canyon filled with lovely trees, animals and seasonal adventures.  Today, Patti Clements, Kathy Cahoon and I left in the dark, at 6:00 A.M. and got dropped off at Guardsman’s Pass.  We started hiking with headlamps but soon found ourselves at the top of the dirt road looking down on Park City, watching the sun start to creep over the mountains.  We used to run this Wasatch Back Trail but now we are content to walk it, enjoying the scenery, turning often to look over at Brighton and Silver Lake and all the craggy peaks that reach into the sky.  The colors turned early this year.  We were treated to the most spectacular color of yellow on the quakies of those trees that hadn’t already lost their leaves.  Lower down, after we passed Desolation Lake, we walked through tunnels of trees where yellow leaves carpeted the ground and made polka-dots upon the branches of pine trees.  We hiked for 10 miles seeing only about a dozen others enjoying this Fall day.  I need the mountains to fill my soul.  It is one of the amazing forces in my life that fills my bucket and keeps me moving forward wanting to get more out of this beautiful earth.  I love being with friends too, who also fill my bucket, great examples to me of how I want to live my life. There is something to this process of walking and thinking that brings understanding.
