Quote of the Day:  “You have a gift that only you can give the world- that’s the whole reason you’re on the planet… the miracle of your existence calls for celebration every day.” Oprah Winfrey

So this morning, Sue O. and I got up and walked under this amazing full moon.  It was straight above us, high in the sky and had the appearance of moving through the clouds.  The light of the moon makes all the difference when you are trying to navigate the dark streets.  I love the discipline that exercising in the morning gives you- you have to get out of this warm bed, usually while still tired, all while dealing with thoughts of facing the cold and sometimes icy streets.  You really have to overcome the “natural” man and make yourself do something that you then, in turn, feel good about all day.

This morning I was down 2 lbs.  Yeah! I attribute it to eating vegetables as a snack- for the past 2 days I have made myself a bag of vegetables and then when I’m out and about, that’s my go to food, my only food choice.  I also ate dinner early last night, around 4:30 and felt satisfied all evening.  So here’s a question that was on my mind regarding having implants:  I asked the plastic surgeon if the implants weigh more than normal breast tissue because for women that’s a really big deal.  No one wants extra pounds.  He said: “No”.  He did say that after surgery you weigh a little more because your body is holding on to liquid as you heal.

Weight Loss Rule # 3:  BEEF UP YOUR PROTEIN INTAKE     Here’s some great information about protein- “…it builds muscle and preserves lean body mass.  Every day, runners need at least a half gram of protein per pound of weight. …It takes longer to digest, so you feel fuller longer, and it helps keep blood-sugar levels steady, so you don’t get ravenously hungry and feel the need to overeat.”  Runner’s World says that it’s important when you consume protein, meaning time of day, and protein should be a part of each meal.  Some good protein suggestions include:  a whey protein drink, cottage cheese, Greek yogart, soy nuts and edamame, peanut-butter and reduced fat.  One change I am going to make as I become leaner is to incorporate different flavorful foods into my eating regimen.  It’s so discouraging to try to lose weight when you are reduced to eating just a few select foods that become blander to your taste buds every minute.

On a different note, I wanted to put a picture of these shoes in my blog.  My nephew, Clayton, just tried out for a professional soccer team and these are the shoes he received for Christmas to wear at try-outs.   Notice first the color of the shoes, and then the initials.  They represent my sister, Lynne Patrice Young Starley and myself, Joan Allison Young Daily and are a statement against breast cancer.  I was very touched that he thought to wear them in our honor!
