Quote of the Day:  “It is our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.”  J.K. Rowling

Exercise Log:  Walked 8.05  on the Riverwalk throughout the day (-4.32).  It took me a while- I read all the historical markers along the way.  Made it to the locks and dams.  I’m a little worried about my feet because like my hands, they are starting to get sore, possibly blisters.  Walking is one of the things I can still do, so I don’t want to lose that!  The San Antonio River is an ecological refuge for migratory birds and the river once meandered through this valley and then they straightened it a bit when the city was developed.  I got off the Riverwalk and went into this beautiful cathedral and saw the tomb that encases the remains of Crockett, Bowie and Travis.  My boys grew up on the legends of Davey Crockett- coonskin caps, rubber bowie knives and yes, we still want to believe that Davey Crockett really “grinned a bear” (I think, when he was just 3).

So remember the Alamo!  I watched the IMAX movie on the Alamo with about 600 San Antonio school children.  So just when I think I’m all alone for the day.  We toured the Alamo together too which made for a interesting time reading all the plaques and seeing the dioramas.  They have no squabbles about moving in right in front of you.

Here are all the things I am learning to do alone this week- walking in the morning, eating lunch at restaurants, going to movie theaters, touring historical sites to mention a few.  It’s not perfect but it’s better than staying cooped up in a hotel room.  Let’s face it, life’s just more fun with a buddy!  So my nausea is starting to subside and if I take it easy, it seems that the next day is a bit easier with fatigue.  The first thing I notice in the morning is how I feel.  I do a quick assessment and I’m so happy if I wake up with some energy.  Dr. Nibley said that most people find the fatigue the hardest thing to deal with.  I think that’s because it goes hand-in-hand with discouragement and depression.  The metal taste part is hard because there are only a few foods that I’ve found that help and that is only while you’re eating them:  green Granny Smith apples, cranberry juice and  Sour Patch Kids.  That’s about it for food!
