Happy Cinco De Mayo-  Cinco de Mayo is a holiday held on May 5. It is celebrated nationwide in the United States and regionally in Mexico, primarily in the state of Puebla.   The date is observed in the United States as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride.  (Wikipedia)  Mike, don’t get lost in the celebration in San Antonio!

Quote of the Day:  Every day I walk myself in to a state of well-being and walk away from illness.  I have walked myself into my best thoughts, and I know of no thought so burdensome that I cannot walk away from it.  Soren Kierkegard

Exercise Log:   Sue O. and I had such a great walk today.  We went 4.56 (-.28)  miles around our area and then on a dirt trail above Wasatch Blvd.  It felt so good to be outside.   Let me tell you a little about Sue O.  She is our GURU runner having completed  51 marathons.   She averages about 4 marathons a year and never seems to get injured, plus she’s fast.   So for her to half to walk around the neighborhood is a sacrifice, but I love her for it!  We ran our first marathon together- Deseret News Pioneer Days in 1996.  Sue came in a little before Susie B. and I but it was a great race.  I kept pinching myself to know that it was real because it was such an accomplishment for me.  I kept saying “I’m running a marathon, I’m running a marathon”.  We had never run over 20 miles so we had in our heads an escape route.  We decided when we got to Hogel Zoo, which was around mile 20, we would pull out if we couldn’t go any further.  No way, we were so pumped up to finish, dreaming of the medal at the finish line, we were going the distance.   I may be trading the stairmaster for working in the yard today because it’s sunny and beautiful!

If you read earlier in my blog, I talked about the Story of the Dragonfly and how it touched Jami’s life so I did some digging.  As a seasonal symbol in Japan, the dragonfly is associated with early and late summer and early autumn. More generally, in Japan dragonflies are symbols of courage, strength, and happiness, and they often appear in art and literature, especially haiku. The love for dragonflies is reflected in the fact that there are traditional names for almost all of the 200 species of dragonflies found in and around Japan.   (also from Wikipedia)  I will never look at dragonflies quite the same way again.  I am still looking for just the right place to display the beautiful pewter dish given to my by Chris and Jami, because I want it somewhere where I can see it.  I feel funny calling them my half-aunts, because along w/ Carol they have reached out to me in such endearing ways so from now on I refer to them as aunts which in Jami’s case sounds silly , since she is younger than me.

I have such richness in my life.  Thanks for bringing a delicious lasagna dinner for us, Linda Dunn, and sweet note from the person I most want to emulate in life, in every way, Carol Skeen- I will be writing a whole page on her one day.  Also, got kind e-mails from Lauren (Mary’s friend) and Blakely.  I adore Blakely, always have and was so touched by her e-mail.  All the best to you in New York.  You really are one of the sweetest people I know!

Joanie, you made me cry! I would be honored to be called aunt. I like that better than half-aunt. What a beautiful dragonfly, and to know that they are symbols of courage, strength and happiness. Makes perfect sense! It sounds like you have so many good people that bring you over yummy food. I remember when I was going through treatments my little sister Kari and her two boys, Landon and Parker brought over Mexican food one night. I opened the door and they were all three standing there in big oversized sombreros and fake mustaches. It was so funny I could not stop laughing. Good memories during a not so good time.
